The diocese-wide procession will be one of the first in history.
And it's to honor what was one of the last initiatives of the late Pope John Paul II.
So it's not too surprising to Bishop Kevin Rhoades to hear estimates the "solemn march" through the streets of McSherrystown and Conewago could reach 3,000 people from a 15-county area.
...
"What better place to celebrate than at the roots of our faith, the church where the Holy Eucharist was first celebrated in this diocese?" he said.
The procession will be rain or shine, starting along North Third Street in McSherrystown and winding north along Conewago Township's Church Street.
North Third Street, between Main and North streets, will be closed from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Segments of several other streets will be closed at varying times due to the progression of the parade. The walk is expected to begin at about 3 p.m. and last until 5 p.m.
